5.9 cummins injectors
« on: September 14, 2017, 08:28:48 AM »
Anyone familiar with swaping common rail injectors? I need to change out all 6 and looking for help from someone familiar with them or a decent shop to take it to.  I don't own a decent torque wrench or inch pound torque wrench that is needed.  Buying those may be the same as just paying a shop to do it.

I worked for Cummins for a good while building engines.  It has been a while but it was a simple job.  Where are you located? And Im assuming its a 24V?

I no longer have any of my torque wrenches either, after loaning them out and never getting them back, but the parts houses loan them out regularly.  All you have to do is remove the valve cover, exhaust rocker arms if I remember correctly, fuel lines, retaining nuts and feed tubes.

Its an 06 common rail

I've watched videos and read forums on it and looks pretty easy, but makes me nervous.  I've got the injectors and new cross over tubes.  Just a decent inch pound torque wrench is expensive enough to just take to shop

There is a place in Florence or Richland that specializes in working on Cummins engines.  I am sure someone will chime in.  Are you going to upgrade your injectors since you have to replace them anyway?

doing a small bump in power.  Went with exergy 30% over.  much bigger and I would need a bigger turbo much sooner than I would like

Thanks man, these damn things apparently are just super picky and need something like 11 inch pounds on the injector harness.  I think I still have your number and shoot you a message when I have everything lined up
